Arepas are a bread-like patty made of cornmeal, and are either grilled, or baked (sometimes fried) and can be split and filled like a sandwich. They are a food stable, and typical in countries like Venezuela and Colombia. While I am not an expert in all things "arepas", I do know that with the right ingredients and toppings, your mouth will be watering!
Arepas Ole started as a restaurant in Central Madrid in 2012 and have grown popular due to their delicious fusion of Venezuelan and Spanish culture. They have been so successful that they became the first Arepería franchise in Spain, with 9 locations, as well as a couple of food trucks!
While their menu has mostly arepas, I personally love the different salsas they have. The most well known in Venezuela is "Guasacaca", ignore the giggles, but this avocado based dressing is to die for. Arepas Ole has two versions, with one being spicy. If you know me and my love for spicy condiments, I was in heaven! They also have other salsas/dressings like their signature "Ole Pink" sauce and "Reina".

The location I went to is the "Arepa Ole Street" location on Huertas. It is a street front location with limited seating (versus a restaurant). Conveniently located in front of Cheer's Karaoke, their late night hours allow for comfort food at great prices. I promise you Arepa Ole did not pay me for this post! lol I just feel the need to share about great food. Plus, having a great staff is always a bonus!

I tried a few different arepas, with my favorites being Jamon y Queso (ham and cheese) and the Peluda (shredded beef and cheese), for both I chose white cheese.

I like to top them with Guasacaca Picante (the spicy version) or with Diabla (super hot red salsa.. you've been warned)

They have "to go" or "take out" options (or "take away" as it's known locally, and apparently in other parts of Europe!)

Whether you choose to eat there or take it to go, you're not going to be disappointed! If you want to see more pics or their menu, you can check out their website at http://arepaole.com/

I'm pretty sure I'll find another reason to visit them soon myself :)

Tiana
